FaHCSIA’s web accessibility video

This contribution comes from the Web Operations Team at the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services & Indigenous Affairs.
December 2012 will see AGIMO’s first deadline for all Australian Government agencies to meet WCAG 2.0 Level A requirements as outlined in the Web Accessibility National Transition Strategy (NTS).
Earlier this year, the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA) produced a short video to raise awareness of web accessibility among its staff. It was hoped that a short, catchy video would assist their internal education purposes and bring some attention to the work they are doing to meet the NTS.
The video was released internally and on YouTube on 2 May 2012. Since its release, FaHCSIA has received good feedback and discussions have taken place around the world about the video and its ability to capture key messages in less than 5 minutes.
Check out the video on YouTube (external link) or as a WMV download (ZIP 40MB).
Video visuals licensed under Creative Commons BY-NC-SA. Audio track licensed to premiumbeat.com.
We hope other agencies can make use of this video as part of their education efforts.

Great little video. Does anyone have any recommendations for adding open captions to webinar recordings?

Thanks for your feedback Margaret.
FaHCSIA uses YouTube for all our videos, utilising the transcript upload feature which automatically creates the captions. We’ve found this to be the simplist way.
Unfortunately though, YouTube does not suit everyone’s needs.

Hi on the video you mention ‘following our guides’ – can you make available a copy of your accessibility guides? I find the WCAG docs hard to follow.

Hi David
If you can send me an email at webaccessibility@fahcsia.gov.au we’d be more than happy to look at what we can provide you.

Hello,
This is a great resource. We would like to use this video on our intranet however we would need to embed the file. Unfortunately your link ‘WMV download (ZIP 40MB)’ appears to be broken. Could you please repair this or supply me with the file?
Many thanks.
